The word winter is a noun and defined as the season between autumn and spring comprising (in the northern hemisphere) of the months of December, January, and February or extending from the December solstice to the March equinox. First used before the 12th century, the word winter derives from Proto-Germanic “wintru-” or “wet”, but unfortunately the origin is unclear.
