You may be wondering what’s a copy editor and why do I need one. Well, a copy editor revises written material to improve readability, as well as ensures that text is free of grammatical and factual errors.
Why do this?
When writing a manuscript the author is the expert on the material, which means the author knows what everything means; however, the author’s audience usually doesn’t. Therefore, as a copy editor, I read from an audiences point-of-view to guide the author to produce a clear and polished piece that is enjoyed by all.
As a copy editor, I’m on the author’s team and want both the writing process to be enjoyable and the final manuscript to be what the author envisioned.
Additionally, authors aren’t as thorough as they think and spelling and grammatical mistakes slip by. The biggest way to lose the readers attention is with one-too-many mistakes. Therefore, as an editor, I’m your second pair of eyes carefully scanning the document, fixing mistakes, and making the story come to life!
To help you get started, here are a few questions:
- What us the goal of your manuscript?
- What topics do you think you’ll write about?
- Who do you want to connect with via your writing?
- How can a copy editor help you?
- Review for spelling, grammar, or reorganization
Once again, I’m so excited you found my page, and I hope to be able to guide you through the editing process. If interested, you can reach out to me at editingbychristina@gmail.com or visit editingbychristina.com.
